First Post

This was the first video I made for this blog. I’ve removed the article and almost all the articles and videos I did that time, but I wanted to keep this around, to have this for contrast for the future.

    Hey Jarkko,

I am in Deans programme as well and I was just going through some of the other blogs.

Well done mate for getting in front of the camera. It seemed as though that was tough for you but YOU DID IT.

I think that is the type of efffort we all need going forward.

    Best of luck

  2. Jarkko Helenius June 13, 2012 at 8:40 pm #

Thanks dude. I see video as the way of the future and better start learning it earlier than later – it’s something I’m committed for the long-term, even if I see myself primarily as a writer. Besides I think there will be some additional benefits to doing video’s as well.

And yes, it’s a little uncomfortable too, which is good, since it means pushing the comfort zone.

    hello Jarkko
I am also a member of Dean’s program, I hope that would help us all. So far i am really amazed by his video tutorials. Please, come and see my blog on

I hope you will like it. Leave some comment if you want.

Ps. nice shirt in the video. i love Iron Maiden :)

    • Jarkko Helenius June 13, 2012 at 10:30 pm #

I’ll have a look at it. I am really confident about Dean’s program, usually you can tell a guy is the real deal when he keeps pounding in the fact that success comes slow.

Heh, thanks for the props. I just happened to have that on today.

  4. Chris Huish June 14, 2012 at 3:12 am #

    Hi Jarkko

I agree. Dean Holland is definitely the real deal! :)

    All the best,

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 9:22 am #

Yeah. I love that he is kicking all of our asses to action. This is great!

  5. birman June 14, 2012 at 3:18 am #

    Hey, Jarkko,

Good for you for doing the video. I haven’t had the courage to try yet. Maybe that is another of Dean’s type challenge. Good for you.

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 9:23 am #

It’s more about just getting in front of the camera and accepting that you are going to suck at first. I am aiming to be shooting videos daily from now on. Eventually that will become my new comfort zone and over time I will also improve on it.

  6. Ashwin Gandhi June 14, 2012 at 9:46 am #

    Hi Jarkko,
I read somewhere that taking ‘massive imperfect action’ is better than taking ‘no perfect action’ so good for you for actually getting out of your comfort zone and doing something!

Good luck with the QSC and I look forward to following you on your journey!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 9:50 am #

Yeah well wasn’t that kind of Dean’s message as well? It will be long before videos will be at a level I can be happy about, but I am kind of happy about it – it will only show the improvement over time in a more pronounced way, when people years from now watch my early videos.

Time’s going to pass anyway, might as well use it to improve on something.

  7. Kabelo June 14, 2012 at 11:46 am #

I like your video my man. Am getting there myself, my next challenge perhaps. Enjoying the challenge thus far and it’s good to see the level of participation from all of us.

Wishing you all the best, may you win one of the $5000 coaching bonuses..

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 12:04 pm #

Thanks a lot for the support, dude! I don’t know about winning the coaching bonus though, I’ve seen some pretty impressive blogs… Hope springs eternal though!

  8. Bibs June 14, 2012 at 12:25 pm #

    Hi Jarkko,

Taking up a notch huh? That’s a cool video and you’re being yourself. You look like a metalhead and I like that! Rock on!!!

Stay focus on the challenge. Good luck!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 1:12 pm #

Thank you. Guilty as charged :)

    Hi Jarkko!

Thanks for dropping by my blog.

Love your blog and your video (my best friend would love your t-shirt bro!).

I also believe that video are the future of IM and planning to shoot a video blog too.

Next time if you’re in Malaysia again do buzz me up ya. Hope you had a great time here in my country.

Right now it’s damn hot! 35 degree C.

Will definitely following your blog bro.

All the bests for the challenge!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 1:14 pm #

I did enjoy Malaysia immensely. I even learned to cope with – even enjoy – the heat. I definitely wasn’t feeling cold!

Gotta keep that in mind when I do return.

  10. Mark Salmon June 14, 2012 at 2:08 pm #

    Hey Jarkko,

Well done for having the courage to feature yourself on video – it is a much better way to make a connection with your audience.

    See you at the top.

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 2:15 pm #

Hi Mark! Hope we will see in the top indeed.

    Jarkko My Man!

Päräyttävä homma nähdä että Deanin haasteessa on muitakin suomalaisia!

Ootko lueskellu Jungia ollenkaan?

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 8:03 pm #

  12. Sorina Dascalu June 14, 2012 at 7:11 pm #

    Hi Jarkko!

Awesome domain name, awesome head banner and awesome location for your video!

You are right, video is the way to go!

Do you have a professional camera?

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 7:54 pm #

      Thanks Sorina!

No, my camera is actually cheap Kodak Zi8. I bought it used for 85 €. It’s a solid camera recommended by couple of video marketers for beginners. The picture quality is well worth the money… As long as the lighting is proper and it’s on a tripod. Move it while shooting or shoot in insufficient light and it’s pretty poor. But for these kinds of videos it suffices well.

Though looking at it now at the Amazon it costs incredibly much. Guess it’s because it’s no longer manufactured so it’s kind of a rarity these days

The whole set-up so far for me is:
      Kodak Zi8 ~85€
Cheap tripod bought from Malaysia ~25 €
Cheap external mic ~10 € – got this with my headphones, wasn’t planning to use them for recording but they perform okay.

Though I’m planning to get a better mic. I’ve been recommended ATR-3350 by Audio Technica, so that’s probably what I’m gonna get.

    • Jarkko Helenius June 14, 2012 at 7:55 pm #

As for the location, I live in the countryside so the surroundings are all full of beautiful nature locations to shoot in. :)

      • Sorina Dascalu June 16, 2012 at 3:50 pm #

The videos turn out very well, even if the camera is not top notch. And since now the price increased you can even sell it for profit and upgrade.

I may say you’ve now a step ahead in the challenge, since you did the required for week 2 since week 1!

If I can give you a suggestion or a personal opinion (after watching your second video) – I like it better with you closer to the camera like in this video – the second video is ok, but maybe too much background and watchers (me) get distracted from what you are saying.

        • Jarkko Helenius June 16, 2012 at 4:01 pm #

Okay, I’ll keep the feedback in mind.

I think the camera is great for the purposes I’m using it, so I’m in no hurry to upgrade.

I certainly hope that it’d give me an edge, but then again I already saw a video where the person was clearly more at ease in front of the camera so who knows. I’ll try to do the best job I can on the competition vid, which I’ll shoot probably on Monday.

    Hi Jarkko!

Great to see your awesome video. It makes me envious as I’ve never come up with one, haven’t mustered the courage to do so and as they say, no guts no glory.

I love your header as it speaks so much about you, full of life and positivity. I look forward to reading more of your blogs and watching more of your videos and witness how you transition from being awesome to extra extraordinary. :)

Cheers and look forward to WAHD getting in the picture somewhere!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 15, 2012 at 11:34 pm #

Thank you. Comments like that really warm my heart.

  15. Shane June 16, 2012 at 12:21 am #

    Hi Jarkko,

Awesome job on the video. I need to start doing that also but haven’t found the courage yet. Also jealous about your 4 months in Malaysia. I will check out your Google+ to learn more.

Best of luck in the Challenge!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 16, 2012 at 4:58 am #

Hmm, I guess this is a testament of me speaking a bit unclearly. I was in malaysia for a month, not for four.

But yeah, thanks for the props.

  16. Sergio Felix June 16, 2012 at 3:41 am #

    Hey Jarkko,

Well I really liked your video man, loved your honesty and your “take no prisoners” attitude at getting out of your comfort zone.

The domain name is beyond awesome man and EXTRA points for wearing that Iron Maiden shirt.

I used to be really good at guitar and I remember playing a few Maiden songs too.

Anyway, hope to see more updates from you and I know it will be very interesting to see your progress.

Cheers and have a great weekend man! \m/

    • Jarkko Helenius June 16, 2012 at 5:00 am #

You’ll be sure to have. As I say in my second video here, I’ll be doing videos every day and while not everything of it will come here, I will keep posting regularly. I’ll see where this journey takes. As for the Iron Maiden shirt… Funny how something I didn’t give a second thought to draws in so many compliments.

  17. Leroy T. Flowers June 16, 2012 at 11:12 am #

Pretty cool blog. You have a nice start here. I like the fact that you are documenting some of your journey by posting videos to your blog post. Look forward to seeing more from you.

  18. Phyllis June 18, 2012 at 3:19 am #

Way to take action with the video! I’m also a member of Dean Holland’s Quick Start Challenge. Keep Taking action!

    To your success!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 18, 2012 at 3:35 am #

Yes, just like I say in my Achieving Consistency post, I need to keep taking action because that’s where success comes. And it’s probably still very far away for me. But I’m hellbent on making it happen.

  19. Kay Franklin June 19, 2012 at 10:10 pm #

    Hi Jarkko

Your shirts definitely give away your love of heavy metal and football!

I am jealous of your trip to malaysia. What an experience.

I really hope you do well with this challenge so that you can carry on visiting amazing places and videoing and telling us about it.

    • Jarkko Helenius June 19, 2012 at 10:32 pm #

Yes, the trip to Malaysia was an amazing experience. No reason for you to be jealous though – I’m sure nothing is holding you back from doing similar adventure… Should you just completely commit to making it happen. It took a take-no-prisoners attitude for me to make it happen.

I am planning to keep on visiting all kinds of places, but it’s for the unforeseeable future to decide. Video stuff will keep on coming, that’s for sure! I’m committed to this for now.

  20. Elisa June 20, 2012 at 5:03 am #

Great job on taking the time and effort to put that video together!

    • Jarkko Helenius June 20, 2012 at 6:12 am #

      Thanks Elisa!

  21. Phil June 20, 2012 at 9:38 pm #

    Hi Jarkko,

Great work taking action here and getting started with your blog.

Well done also for getting your first Youtube video posted online. Way to go!

    Good luck in the QSC

  22. Rich June 22, 2012 at 5:33 am #

    Hi Jarkko,

You have the right attitude, buddy. I loved the comments about your Malaysia trip. I agree with the idea of looking back at your work at a later date and seeing how you progressed. I’m taking the same attitude with my blog. Have fun with this and good luck in the QSC.

  23. Lauren November 27, 2012 at 7:31 am #

Note to self: visit Finland. It looks extremely beautiful.

  24. Sonja December 18, 2012 at 12:12 am #

    Hi Jarrko,

First off I wanted to tell you that I really like your name. It’s kinda cool, but back to the serious part. I love the fact that you were able to step out of your comfort zone and turn your blog into a video blog. I haven’t been able to bring myself to do something like that yet, but I am working on it. I am really shy so I get really nervous talking to people or being in front of a camera. I try to avoid it as much as possible, but I think that you might have encouraged me to try. I would appreciate it if you would visit my blog as soon as you get a chance and tell me what you think.

    • Jarkko Helenius December 18, 2012 at 1:48 am #

Thank you for your comment Sonja! I appreciate it. Sure, I will take a look at your blog.

  25. John Richards March 23, 2013 at 10:12 am #
