3 Things I Learned from 100 Travel Days in 2014

To celebrate my 100th day abroad during 2014, I decided to make a video about few key things I learned out of the process. These turned out to be very universal concepts so even if you’re not planning to ever spend months in foreign countries, they are still worth reminding yourself about just to keep yourself on the narrow path.

Now that I’m actually pressing publish I am far beyond 100 days already (think something over 115), and once my Philippines trip is over I will end my 2014 travels at whopping 145 days abroad. Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Brazil, Turkey, Thailand and Philippines have been the 7 countries that I’ve visited during these days. I will probably write some kind of post talking about the overall experience of a year and other insights on travel. Stay tuned, exciting times ahead.

I LOVE your blog and share a lot of your ideas. You seem to think you are a bit weird. I think you have just been exposed to too many squares in your youth and now think you are ‘an outcast’ because you are not as boring as them :)

I am planning to travel myself for a few months next year and your videos have helped motivate me.

I have always put it off as I have imagined that meeting new people all the time would be too much for someone as introverted as myself. I really like the way you have organized yourself in your travels to try to overcome these types of fears and just do it.

Life is short, I have really thought about that a lot recently. Also good health does not last forever and can go suddenly at any time! Seize the day!

You mentioned arranging to meet people online when traveling, any hints on good websites for ‘digital nomads’ to do this? I actually found your website link on the RSD site :)

Hi David and sorry for delay in my response!

I am in my “normal” mode generally in my blog so you’ve not seen the full gamut of my weirdness haha :)

I’m glad if I’ve managed to help motivate you a bit :)

Travel has helped me a lot but to be honest I’ve not been stepping up enough, something I will probably be addressing on this blog a lot in the near future.

And life indeed is short so you gotta get to it :)

Well aside dating sites, I’ve been using Interpals and another good one is naturally Couchsurfing. Once at a location, WeChat is a nice app that helps you meet people who are located near you but given you’re already there when you can use it, you can’t really use that prior to travel to make friends, but its helpful once you’re at somewhere new already. Those are just the ones I’ve been using, I’m sure there’s many other places like that too.

      Hope this helped,

Thanks! Interpals looks perfect, I will try to organize some friends in advance of traveling with that.

Don’t get stuck in ‘normal mode’ too long :)
